Queen Charlotte Track
This renowned coastal walk offers stunning views of the Marlborough Sounds over its 72-kilometre length.
About this place
The track stretches from historic Ship Cove to Anakiwa, winding through lush native bush and along breathtaking ridgelines. It follows the coastline of Queen Charlotte Sound / Tōtaranui, providing constant vistas of secluded bays and clear blue-green water. The path is well-formed and graded, making it accessible to a wide range of fitness levels, whether you choose to walk a small section or the entire length.
The trail can be walked in either direction and is typically completed in 3 to 5 days, with accommodation options dotted along the way. Water taxis provide excellent access, allowing you to walk specific sections as day trips and have your pack transferred for you. The track is rich in both Māori and European history, passing sites of significance including Captain Cook's favoured anchorage at Ship Cove.
