Whitianga

Whitianga is a bustling coastal town on Mercury Bay, serving as a central hub for exploring the eastern Coromandel Peninsula.

About this place

Situated around a deep-water harbour, Whitianga has a long history of Māori settlement and was a site of early contact with European explorers, including Captain Cook. Today, it is a thriving town known for its beautiful waterfront, marina, and vibrant local community. It provides an excellent base with plenty of services for visitors to the region.

From Whitianga, you can easily access many of the Coromandel's famous attractions. A small passenger ferry provides a quick link across the estuary to Ferry Landing, where you can access Flaxmill Bay, Cooks Beach, and beyond.
